Life Update #2: Big Deal Birthday

Dear Human,

I know, I know. I missed the 2nd Tuesday of August, and this letter comes with my apologies. A lot has happened, and life pulled me away from my keyboard and screens. Just to let you know, I miss you too. 🥹

My pet Shih Tzu, Lili, had been sick with a blood parasite and left me almost crying as she got weaker, paler, and dropped weight faster than Manila traffic. We visited a vet, but eventually ended up in an animal hospital where she was medicated with lots of medicines. Thank God, we were permitted to go home.

Lili (and Mia, her sister, and Max, our senior dog) is the main reason why sometimes I just can’t wait to go home. Despite some things at home being unpleasant, Lili reminds me that she is there, waiting for me every time, and terribly misses me when I leave. I am at this age in my life where I already consider dogs better companions than humans. They reciprocate love without conditions, they can’t wait till I get home, they’re more loyal than most humans, and they never tire of loving me despite my imperfections.

Lili on the cold steel table of the animal hospital, looking at me while we wait for her blood results 😔

I think that was the only downside of my birthday: I wasn’t with her. However, the upsides were on a much higher level than that. And maybe that’s because I couldn’t believe that a real human would step in and ACTUALLY celebrate my birthday with me. Because I don’t celebrate my birthday. I haven’t felt celebratory about it for years.
